Bodyguard Roles
Men wearing dark suits and sunglasses surrounding a VIP is popular in culture but what are real bodyguard roles? Bodyguards have critical responsibilities to keep clients safe from risk and dangerous situations.
There are several types of people who need protection company executives, famous figures, viral individual, divorcees etc.
These types of individuals require different bodyguard roles that are unique to their to their operational needs.
Roles
There are several types of bodyguard roles. However, the situation will determine which roles are utilized during each operation.
Preparation & Planning
Logistics personnel conduct all research and planning for the operation. This includes research on all background information, risk assessment, vendor sourcing, route design and operational plan. Above all, there must be adequate preparation.
Close Protection Team
A Driver-bodyguard is responsible for transportation protection, evasive maneuvers, etc. A close-protection officer is tasked with escorting the client and close threat identification. A counter-surveillance operator may be directly attached for surveillance detection.
Counter-Surveillance
Personnel who focus on detecting threats. These threats may be mobile or stationary. The goal is to identify threats following the principal. For example, a person will secretly follow behind the VIP and they will look for any threats or followers.
Pre-Search
When in communication with the other teams there will be various destinations along routes to search. The purpose of these searches is to identify any threats at the locations in the route. Once cleared this allows for safe arrivals. After that, movement will commence.
Rapid Response Team
A rapid response team can be fixed or mobile during operations. They will provide additional support if a serious catastrophe occurs. Personnel may do multiple roles. For instance, a counter-surveillance operative may serve as rapid response in an emergency. Moreover, the plan will pre-assign the roles.
Auxiliary Support
Personnel who operate in the field or the office. This includes the technical operators such as electronic “bug” detection, communications, logistics and more. so
