CPR Procedures
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can help save a life during a cardiac or breathing emergency. However, even after training, remembering the CPR steps and administering them correctly can be a challenge. So we have a quick set of steps that hopefully will be easy enough to remember in the event of an emergency. The American Red Cross is the leader in training – Check out here
Step 1 – Check for Response
Check the scene and the person. Make sure the scene is safe, then tap the person on the shoulder and shout “Are you OK?” to ensure that the person needs help. You don’t want to do CPR on someone who doesn’t need it!
Step 2 – Establish an Airway
Open the airway. With the person lying on his or her back, tilt the head back slightly to lift the chin.
Step 3 – Check for Breathing
Deliver rescue breaths. With the person’s head tilted back slightly and the chin lifted, pinch the nose shut and place your mouth over the person’s mouth to make a complete seal. Blow into the person’s mouth to make the chest rise. Deliver two rescue breaths, then continue compressions.
Step 4 – Begin CPR
Your knees should be parallel with the victim. and put the other hand on the top of the first hand in the center of the chest. Two arms should be straight to the victim’s body. You must compress down on the chest to a depth of 3-4 cm and at a rate of 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths besides
* Important notes: for example
Child’s bones are vulnerable, so compression force during CPR should be appropriate and depend on age. Compressions must be done at a rate of 80-90 times per minute. So for the child at age of 10 or younger and 100 times per minute for a newborn baby. also
The chest compression may be done by one or two persons. It’s necessary to perform 15 chest compressions and 2 artificial ventilations if it’s done by one person and 5 chest compressions and 1 artificial ventilation if it’s done by two persons. a
