What is restaurant security?
A contributing factor when it comes to trusting an establishment is restaurant security. If a restaurant cannot provide a safe and secure atmosphere then customers simply will choose other establishments. Security must be balanced to accomplish the goal of protection. Meanwhile, it does not interfere with the restaurant experience.
Security Manager
A designated person should be responsible for all security operations. Depending on the size and scale of the organization this person may have multiple roles. Similarly, they may be solely responsible for restaurant security.
Action Plan
Security incident response is critical to the protection of any organization. Businesses need to have an action plan. Having a clearly defined action plan in the event of an incident reduces damages, incident occurrences and helps prevent future incidents.
Access
This may seem self-explanatory but controlling access to the restaurant will assist in not only the restaurant experience but also assist in having more control over the environment. Positioning staff at the entrance is a great way to provide exceptional customer service but also assess any potential disturbances and deal with them appropriately.
Parking
If parking exists it needs a secure area for incoming guests to park temporarily. This should be clearly identifiable for both the restaurant and the customers. The level of security is dependent on the situation of the restaurant. Sites should add barriers, fences, gates and others to reduce risk.
Security guards dressed to match any atmosphere can be a passive security approach and on the surface level provide a human customer service aspect.
CCTV or Closed Circuit Television (in more detail below) is another passive approach that can be disguised or readily visible to add a remote monitoring capability of operations.
Alarms
If a restaurant is too large, or security guards aren’t necessary, security alarms can be installed to alert nearby security personnel or sound a siren to deter any attackers from continuing forward with criminal intent. For example
CCTV Surveillance
CCTV has become a standard for monitoring operations in the modern world. It gives personnel an “extra eyeball”. Likewise, if the system has storage it can record events. This can be helpful in responding to an incident as it happens or going back in time to review records of past events.
