School security is a particularly sensitive area when planning security operations. Millions of parents around the nation leave their kids, loved ones in the care of other adults. No one ever expects nor wants anything bad to happen to their children. This makes planning security operations around children very challenging.
We take special care when recruiting security personnel. We implement several additional measures during recruitment. For example, additional background checks, higher experience requirements etc. This is critical to the safety of children at schools. Without extra requirements children could be at risk.
The PMV Approach
PMV Security strives to ensure a highly visible and multi-layered presence at each location we serve clients.
The first factor we look at is the candidates we select when hiring. If they don’t match our standards we move on as from our experience no matter the quality of training or managers, if they don’t fit the job the problems will show up in the future. We will conduct a background check in accordance with the laws but also contact references to get a better sense of their personality as this is key when around children.
The next factor is our training standards. We implement a strict basic training for all the guards and from there their advanced specialized training. This is where our security personnel work on industry standard requirements. They will be trained in all aspects of the education sector from security protocols, procedures, equipment operations and safety operations.
The last portion covers site specific training which provides the most up to date protocols and requirements by the client. This is particularly important as the security personnel need to be capable of operating and interacting with them as an incident may occur where security has to intervene. Communication plays a very important role. We want to ensure the adults we are entrusting to protect children can communicate appropriately and comfortably around children.
School Security & Education
There are a number of additional protocols that are unique to when applying school security.
If you currently have kids in school or you work in a school you will know the traffic at start/end times for classes is pure chaos. This poses a significant challenge to security personnel as more 0ften then not there are no traffic police around to assist with controlling traffic. Our security personnel are trained to enforce strict rules so that parents/kids are entering and exiting safely from the premises.
Vendors / 3rd Parties
Where there are children and parent’s wallets there are vendors there trying to sell everything. Security personnel must be trained and capable of enforcing policies related to vendors. If they are not allowed to sell on the premises for whatever reason they must be prepared to deal with this as ignoring the problem could result in an incident if a child gets sick on school grounds from a vendor’s food product.
Security personnel must be alert to adults / kids entering the premises. We don’t ever want to think an adult means harm on a child until the incident occurs and then everyone starts asking how this could have happened. Also, kids not attending that school may enter the premises for whatever reason. Security must be capable of interacting with children and notifying other education staff if random children are roaming.
Children are statistically at higher risk for sickness and injury due to their weaker immune systems and developing minds. We focus on ensuring all emergency health plans are in place at each school location and they are trained in basic life saving techniques to include injury dressings. Our goal is to increase efficiency on our response.
When we setup a consultation with you, we will conduct a site assessment to evaluate your location for your security requirements. From there we provide a proposal and make adjustments as needed.
