Types of Security Guard Jobs
There are several types of security guard jobs that people utilize on a daily basis. A security guard’s mission is to protect government or private assets, people, equipment, money etc. They protect against hazards such as waste, property damage, and criminal activity.

Some organizations may contract guards to be perform high risk operations. Due to that high risk security guards may carry additional weapons. There are varying degrees of weapons from non-lethal to lethal. Each individual must pass an extensive interview process.
Unarmed Guards
Not all situations are high risk enough to require additional weapons. Security guards are there to enforce policies and provide prevention measures. Their response must be appropriate to the risk. Each individual will go through general security protection training. Likewise, they train on client specific policies.
Bodyguards
A bodyguard is a type of security guard who protects a person or a group of people. For example, the individuals that use protection are high-ranking officials, wealthy people, celebrities, etc. The threats usually consist of theft, assault, kidnapping, assassinations, harassment and others.
Bodyguards will usually be present the entire time. This type of job is one of the more difficult types. Because the level of protection is far more significant. Security must protect the client in several types of scenarios. Anyone in the public could be a potential threat.
Patrol Guards
Patrolling is usually a large part of a security guard’s duties. Clients will usually schedule regular patrols. Unlike stationary guards, patrol guards move throughout the area while they are on shift. The shifts can be very small areas vs large square kilometer sites.
Patrol duties can vary significantly. Likewise, they have quite a bit of responsibility. Guards will often patrol the same patrol repeatedly throughout shift.
Others will be encouraged to change up how they patrol so that the regulars do not get accustomed to the routine. When people can predict how security guards will respond and act, they can plan theft or other poor behavior.
