More and more people of different ages have chosen to become security officers as it doesn’t have too many professional or educational requirements. Because of that reason, people are commonly mistaken about the security officers, considering them as the “illiterate” or “the lazy”. That leads to some misconceptions or misunderstandings about security officers as well as security services. Gradually, security officers are looked down on and even offended.
Do people really look down on security officers?
It often says that “the eyes are the window into the soul”. Through the eyes, we can see happiness, sadness, or even anger or contempt. This is common in the security industry. When giving services to difficult customers, security officers are commonly looked down on with negative attitudes. Vietnamese parents used to tell their children that “If you don’t take your education seriously, you will end up being a security officer in the future.”
Misconceptions or prejudice against security guards may put a negative impact on their children’s ways of thinking. In some worse scenarios, the children are negatively affected and also look down on the security guards. As the mistakes accumulate, the situation will only worsen.
All of the above is simply a hidden corner of this industry. We should still be more positive. Because not everyone thinks like this. Every occupation or industry is born to conduct or solve a problem from a certain aspect according to the need of society. The security industry brings safety to society. Therefore, this is an occupation that needs others’ respect. If they don’t do it, then who will do it?
What do the security officers think?
A typical way of thinking of people in modern society is that security jobs are just for the illiterate or the lazy people. Because this job doesn’t include too many professional or educational requirements. People express many kinds of emotions: anger, joy, love, and hatred. Security officers, especially young people, are likely to be insecure and diffident when working in this industry.
Some young people choose to work in faraway areas to avoid their acquaintances. They wallow in self-pity in fear of their family members’ judgment. That is the very way of thought of the security officers. Gradually, not only society but also the security officers look down on themselves as well as their occupation.
Prejudice is a very difficult thing to change because it is something deeply rooted in each person. But not every security guard will be dejected and discouraged because of that. Security is also legally considered a job. Security officers work and earn money by themselves. There’s nothing to be shy about it. Everyone in this society should be sympathetic to understand them more.
Don’t look down on the security industry
There is no legal job that is considered lowly and does not deserve respect. Security is looked down on because people don’t understand the characteristics as well as the importance of that profession. Do not rush to judge by your own thoughts. Instead, you should try to put yourself in the position of those who are working as security officers.
The meaning and value of the security industry are priceless. That’s why security officers work hard to make a living every day. They are the very people to contribute to the security and order of society.
At PMV, we understand the thoughts and hardships of each security officer. And understand how others look down on the security profession. Therefore, PMV always has good policies to protect all employees when working here.
